The Somali Livelihood Initiative and Disability Organization (LIDOSOM) is a beacon of hope for people with disabilities in Somalia, particularly in the Gedo region of Jubaland State. Established on January 1st, 2015, LIDOSOM operates as an independent humanitarian, non-profit, non-governmental organization dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, women, and children.
At its core, LIDOSOM strives for social integration and the holistic development of disabled individuals. Through a range of initiatives, including skill development programs and the creation of employment opportunities, LIDOSOM aims to minimize dependency, uplift morale, and combat societal stigma. By fostering a supportive environment, the organization enables disabled individuals to lead more fulfilling lives and play an active role in their communities.
One of LIDOSOM's key strengths lies in its collaborative approach. Working in cooperation with Disabled People Organizations (DPOs) in the region and fostering unity among disabled individuals, the organization amplifies its impact. By leveraging partnerships and community engagement, LIDOSOM facilitates the implementation of humanitarian aid, human rights protection, and development programs tailored to the needs of disabled populations.
In pursuit of its mission, LIDOSOM has established essential infrastructure, including education centers, rehabilitation hospitals, and training workshops. These facilities serve as hubs for skill acquisition, clinical services, and vocational training, empowering disabled individuals to acquire valuable skills and pursue meaningful livelihoods.
In essence, LIDOSOM represents a beacon of empowerment and inclusivity, championing the rights and well-being of disabled individuals in Somalia.
