  • Ongoing project LIDOSOM is currently running a project based on promotion of disability rights through advocacy. The project is funded by Somali Diaspora but nearer to phase out.

 Shifting Power – Strengthening Local Leadership in Humanitarian Coordination

Save the Children Sweden, the main project objective was;

Through the shifting power learning Grant on strengthening local leadership in humanitarian coordination, strengthening the institution and operational capacity of LIDOSOM through the provision of technical support on governance, financial management and development, external relations, and human resources to enable LIDOSOM to effectively respond to humanitarian crises and people in need. 

  1. Nutrition Screening and Education: ongoing in Luuq Region, in Gedo. Periodical screening is done to identify people in need of food support.
  2. Education and Empowerment: LIDOSOM has invested in a middle-level college (BISMO PROVISION COLLEGE) supporting those with disabilities and the youths as well as women attend to college for training on skills. The college also offers support to the needy in giving supporting live skills.

Some of the lessons offered include:

  1. Health courses -Nutrition, medical records, and community health
  2. Adult based education (ABE)
  3. Computer packages
  4. Tailoring
  5. Beauty salon
  6. Plumping
  7. Carpentry
  8. Mechanics
  1. Health for the persons with disability, including counselling, food support, screening and advocacy for local and international support.
  2. WASH program: LIDOSOM supports the needy villagers, distributing water, especially when draughts and famine arise. This is done on the need basis.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Fig. 2- Through our support, we have established Bismo Professional College which a life supporting facilities and provided TVET service whereby  120  students  graduated  from  different  faculties  including health, tailoring, computer software, mechanics, language skills and beauty salon.

Somali Livelihood Initiative and Disability Organization (LIDOSOM) assisted children with Albinism living in Arshaam IDP camp in Luuq district of Gedo Somalia on 16th April, 2023, one the remote areas in the district where availability of clean water, shelter, food and health is very scarce. This camp is dwelled by people who displaced from Bakool region around Burdhuxule and proximate villages due to the recurring droughts that devastated both livestock and all farming activities. Each child was given a pair of clothes, shoes and hut that protects the UV rays.

Albinism is an inherited condition that leads to someone having very light skin, hair, and eyes and it happens because they have less melanin than usual in their body.

LIDOSOM is committed to support all children, majorly children with disability in order to participate the happy days of the Eid and bring much needed hope for children with disability whose families are poor and unable to provide the Eid clothes to their children.
