LIDOSOM supports elderly and children by providing nutrition and food, and nutritional counseling

The number of older people with unmet care and support needs is increasing substantially due to lack of special program for elderly people in Somalia, in addition to that elderly people in Somalia are facing hazardous disease like diabetics, blood pressure and mental problem. Addressing these unmet needs is becoming one of the urgent public health priorities. In order to develop effective solutions to address some of these needs, it is important first to understand the care and support needs of older people in Somalia.

In this regard Somali Livelihood Initiative and Disability Organization (LIDOSOM) is currently supporting elderly people in Somalia particularly Gedo region through mobility aid devices and nutrutional food assistant voluntarily with support of Somali Diaspora and local community contribution.

Due to protracted insecurity and recurring drought have resulted the displacement of thousands of  households in Somalia living in dire conditions, many children go to work at the market places as shoe shiners, LIDOSOM stepped ahead to support these young children, did referral to primary schools in Luuq district, LIDOSOM managed these children to join these schools without paying any fees. LIDOSOM is advocating on how to get schools  with children with special needs like children suffering autism and children born with albinism.
