LIDOSOM Participation – 3rd Somali Disability Forum (SDIF)
LIDOSOM proudly participated in the 3rd Somali Disability Forum (SDIF) held virtually on 16–17 February 2026, which brought together over 30 participants including OPDs, disability networks, government representatives (Mr. Mohamed Abdull Jama
Chairperson NDA National disabilty agency), and international partners to discuss the humanitarian situation of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Somalia amid the ongoing drought and displacement crisis.
During the forum, LIDOSOM representative Mr. Sahal Issack highlighted critical concerns regarding the exclusion of Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) from humanitarian coordination mechanisms in Jubaland, particularly in Gedo.
He emphasized that many persons with disabilities are frequently missing from beneficiary targeting and that disability projects must ensure meaningful participation of PWDs rather than symbolic representation. LIDOSOM called for stronger accountability, inclusive coordination, and direct engagement of OPDs to ensure equitable humanitarian assistance.
The forum concluded with key recommendations including strengthened coordination among OPDs, disability-inclusive humanitarian programming, increased donor support, rapid assessments to identify vulnerable PWDs, and the establishment of a national emergency plan and dedicated fund for persons with disabilities.
LIDOSOM remains committed to advocating for inclusive humanitarian response, protection, and meaningful participation of persons with disabilities, ensuring that no one is left behind during Somalia’s ongoing drought emergency.
