The rapid WASH need assessment has been conducted by Somali Livelihood Initiative and Disability Organization (LIDOSOM). The assessment was conducted in the sequence of protracted and torrential rain that was raining on over one week in Luuq district causing the river Jubba to burst by flooding to the residential areas in the district including IDP sites and resulted the displacement of thousands of households and evacuated to higher areas. The floods affected the host communities, IDPs settlement, school, agro-pastoral and the town has been divided into two which restricted the movement of people and transportation which deteriorated the living condition of people.
The flood affected 473 HH in Jaziira 1, IDPs, 900 HH in Wadajir IDPs, 500 HH in Shabagan, 310HH in Garmadow and 100 HH in Lagbaar IDPs. Shabagan and Lagbaar are new IDPs sites locates at which were established after people displaced by flood settled.
The continuation of Deyr rains, its predicted that more rains shall fall in the coming months and with the current displace host communities and IDPs not having enough resources in their hands for them to respond their urgent needs and this will make the effect of the flooding more-worse.
